Bollywood is one of the biggest film industries in the world, with over 1000 movies by year. Bollywood makes twice as much as Hollywood. “Raja Harishchandra”, was the first Indian-produced movie, made in 1913. In the ‘70s, Bollywood took Hollywood's place as the leading movie producer, and that’s when Hindi movies got their tag- Bollywood movies.

In Bollywood, along with highly graceful dances of a specific part of the body, costumes, and facial expressions, that take place very often in movies, and very expressive acting, you can find that there are all types of characters emerged in a different type of movies. Not only there are different types of characters, but also, when an actor is suitable for some particular kind of character, he is mostly used to be offered that kind of roles continuously, especially when it comes to villains.  Here are some of the well-known Bollywood villains:

Amjad Khan is an immortal as an actor as the villain. No matter what are the laws of physics, and how badly he would be injured, he used to jump out as almost nothing has happened. He was arrogant, cruel, notorious, but he was a very good villain to love and hate at the same time.

His best character as Gabbar Singh from “Sholay” is deceit and has an unsettling, creepy, evil laughter. He is a cold-hearted murderer who has sadistic needs and likes using sadistic measures whenever possible.

Amrish Puri was a Bollywood actor who has often been referred to as the best villain actor among Hindi movie fans. His villain characters are often eccentric, which enjoy showing off their power and strength, almost no feelings, enjoying other’s suffering. Some of the honorable mentions are General Dong, from “Tahalka”, Bhairon Nath “Nagina” or Thakur Durjan Singh from “Karan Arjun”.

One of the greatest Amrish Puri’s roles is a role of Mogambo, a retired army general, from a movie titled “Mr. India”. Mogambo is a weird, yet amazingly bright-minded. He wants to conquer India. His cruelness is shown at the highest at the moment when he was striving to his goal, wants to burn two kids in acid liquid.

Next actor that should be mentioned is Ajit Khan. His roles were well educated, sophisticated and in a kind of geeky way ahead of others. He is the master of the underground, of the mafia, and almost by rules has a lot of money. Maybe the best role he has ever played in Bollywood cinematography is Lion from “Kalicharan“. This villain was a royal rich and very smart and liberal.

Anupam Kher is the last but not the least, although, there could be a near-never-ending list of finest names of Bollywood actors making a brilliant role as a villain. Anupam Kher has the cold-blooded look that makes him look even more crooked. He is also very creative when killing.

If we talk about Dr. Dang, from the movie “Karma”, he is one of the most iconic villains. His round face of a peaceful intellectual can change in a second and become a merciless bloody killer, what is even more disturbing when he has a role of a doctor: a doctor has enough information to know how to be cruel and physically damage someone.

This is a fact that Villains are known as the dark side of movies but as essential as the lead character.
